Awakening the Mountain with Stevie Rachel Lawrence

One day there was a heatwave. And also, admission to the parks was free, and it was Saturday. So I piled all my gear into my FJ, picked up three brave (and slightly crazy) models, and headed into the madness that was Jasper National Park.

Stevie Rachel Lawrence answered my casting call first. She’s one of those models that takes this stuff seriously.  She knows what she wants, she knows how to tell you, she turns up.

After hiking our way to the bottom of Maligne Canyon with way too much equipment, Stevie transformed into a river nymph and I had to catch my breath with my camera in my hand.

I remember her asking me somewhere along the way if I would be willing to get into the water–you know–get my feet wet–during a shoot. I still smile when I think of that; anyone who knows me knows I’ll do almost anything for a shot. But damn, that water was cold.

Of course I got in, but nowhere near as deep as Stevie.

A bit later we created some more images on the shore of Annette Lake,

Stevie finds a way to improve on this amazing landscape.

And of course, Stevie couldn’t keep herself from going for a dip …

I hope you like the images as much as I liked shooting them. It was well-worth the heat and traffic jams.
